Are you a nature and outdoor lover? Have you been dreaming of your next food adventure? Portugal is the perfect place to get back to nature and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Take time our from the screens to enjoy the vineyards and orchards of this spectacular country.
On this tour you will have the chance to explore the lively city of Porto before embarking on a journey to the heart of the Douro Valley. Famous worldwide for its delicious wines. The climate here is the perfect mix of hot and cold to grow the renowned Albarino and Vinho Verde grapes. Fresh, crisp white wines alongside smooth bodied reds make for excellent sipping time.
Enjoy soaking up some of Portugal’s stunning landscapes while cycling the well marked trails and forest paths. Stopping in Pinhao and Torre de Moncorvo for treats along the way.
Day 1. Porto overnight
Transfer to first hotel in Porto. A relaxed start to your holiday, you’ve got time this morning to explore Porto City’s old town, its narrow streets and 12th century Sé Cathedral, and magnificent views of the Douro river. It’s then time to board the train to Pinhão, which takes you weaving through the vineyards from the mouth of the Douro to the narrow valley slopes of the wine region of the Douro. At Pinhão you’ll visit Quinta, an old wine farm – time for your first glass.
Day 2. Train Douro Valley to Torre de Moncorvo
Situated in the heart of the famous Douro Valley you are perfectly positioned for one of our favourite vineyard experiences and picking tours. The many orchards surrounding you today are sure to inspire.
We will meet with local wine producers, get a taste of life on the land and enjoy a hands on picking experience before a delicious meal in the evening. The end of winter is extra special in this region as the local communities celebrate “Amendoeiras em Flor” (Almond-trees in Blossom). A stunning display of colours washes across the local orchards.
Day 3. Wine Tour and Vineyard Experience
Today we enjoy cycling around some of the most scenic landscapes of the Douro. You can choose to enjoy a self-guided cycling trail where you will have the chance to stop into vineyards along the way or go with one of our local guides who is an expert in all things about the Douro region.
Day 4. Visit the olive groves and taste the olive oil
A treat for the senses, this day is filled with tasting opportunities. In the morning you can enjoy visiting the local olive groves to learn about the picking process and production stages. For lunch you will enjoy the fruits of your labour with an olive oil tasting demonstration and of course some local wines.
Day 5. Cruise and Port tour
One of the best things about this beautiful region of Portugal is that land and water are so connected. While enjoying a small cruise on the Douro river enjoy basking in the scenes from the vineyards and orchards of the Valley. We can guarantee that you will feel closer to nature.
