What to Expect
Walking the magical mountains of Valenica is the ideal way to experience all that is on offer in this region of Spain. Terraced vineyards, charming villages and almond trees guide you on your way through the mountains of Alicante.
Nature lovers can enjoy discovering some of the 450 species of flowers and exploring the gorges of El Maestrazgo in Castellón. The marked trails are thousands of years old and allow you to walk from the hilly interior to the stunning coast.
In this sun soaked region you will be rewarded with views of the sea and sky. On this self-guided walking tour you will receive a warm local welcome, meet local producers and enjoy the rugged landscapes.
Day 1: Meet at Alicante Airport for transfer to Tárbena
Day 2: Tárbena 7 km.
This circular route starts with an ascent to the ruins of the Moorish castle that overlooks the village, passing some houses we find the old trail that leads up to the Castle. You pass many almond, avocado and carob groves. This walk serves as a good introduction to the layout of the valley and surrounding mountains you will explore over the next week.
Day 3: Plans D’Alt to Tárbena 13.3 km.
A walk through the tranquil countryside of the Plans´D’Alt with the Sierra de Aixortá dominating the skyline. The landscape is a mixture of pinewoods, fruit orchards and almond groves and the first stop Serra de Serrella rock arches followed by the Pas Tancat gorge.
Day 4: Tárbena To The Algar Falls 16 km
Today you explore the southern end of the Tárbena Valley and the Sacos Valley to finish at the Algar Falls, a series of waterfalls and natural rock pools formed as the Sacos River is forced through a narrow gorge.
Day 5: Circular walk via Barranco del Infierno: 14km, 7hrs
This challenging route is one of the region’s most spectacular trails and an undoubted highlight of the week. Consisting of a series of ascents and descents on ancient stone steps, it leads you between three atmospheric ravines, including the famous Barranco del Infierno (‘Hell’s ravine’), formed thousands of years ago by the River Girona.
