Dublin Bay Forage & Feast
Forage sea beet and wild herbs on Howth Head, then eat them with today's catch on the pier.
- Half day
- from Dublin
- Year-round, best April to October
- Up to 8 guests
From a DART station to the cliffs of Howth and back by mid-afternoon. A forager leads the cliff path and the shore at low tide, and lunch is cooked with what you found.
The hands-on moment
Forage sea beet and wild herbs on Howth Head, then eat them with today's catch on the pier.
The day
10:00
Meet at Howth DART
Coffee and a warm scone with wild-berry jam from last summer's pick.
10:30
Cliff path forage
Your forager leads the walk around Howth Head. In spring you gather sea beet, rock samphire and alexanders; in autumn, blackberries and rosehips. You learn what is safe to pick and what to leave.
12:00
The shore at low tide
Read the rock pools, gather dulse and sea lettuce, and hear how Dublin Bay has fed the city for centuries.
13:00
Harbour feast
A private table on the pier. Today's catch is cooked with what you foraged, with Irish cider or craft beer alongside.
14:30
Take-home
A foraging field card and a small jar of seaweed salt.
Signature upgrade
Add a boat across to Ireland's Eye for a foraged picnic on the island beach (July to early September).
When to go
Year-round, best April to October
Good to know
The walk is about 4 km on uneven cliff paths. Bring waterproof footwear; the shore section is timed to the tide.
